# bt docs

> Download Braintrust documentation for coding agents.

`bt docs` downloads Braintrust documentation as local Markdown files for coding agents. Running `bt docs` without a subcommand is equivalent to running `bt docs fetch`.

## bt docs fetch

Download documentation from the Braintrust docs index. Use `--workflow` to select documentation for a task such as instrumentation, observability, annotation, evaluation, or deployment. By default, the command downloads every group and organizes the files by task under `.bt/skills/docs`.

```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark-dimmed"}}
bt docs --workflow observe
bt docs fetch --output-dir .bt/skills/docs --refresh
bt docs fetch --dry-run --json
```

**Flags**

| Flag | Description |
| - | - |
| `--llms-url <URL>` | Docs index URL. Defaults to `https://www.braintrust.dev/docs/llms.txt` |
| `--output-dir <PATH>` | Output directory for downloaded docs. Defaults to `.bt/skills/docs` |
| `--workflow <WORKFLOW>` | Documentation group to include. Pass more than once to include multiple groups. Defaults to all groups. Values: `instrument`, `observe`, `annotate`, `evaluate`, `deploy`, `all` |
| `--dry-run` | Discover links without writing files |
| `--strict` | Fail if any page download fails |
| `--refresh` | Clear the output directory before downloading docs |
| `--workers <N>` | Number of concurrent download workers. Defaults to `12` |

Pass the shared [`--json` global flag](https://www.braintrust.dev/docs/reference/cli/overview#global-flags) to return a structured fetch report.
