  • Use case - Understand how a fixed-amount Pro coupon is allocated across invoice charges and identify usage-based overages

Summary

This guide applies to fixed-amount coupons, such as a coupon worth $249. It does not apply to percentage-based coupons. A fixed-amount coupon reduces your invoice by its specified discount amount. It does not increase your plan’s included usage or apply exclusively to the Pro platform-fee. Braintrust allocates the coupon across eligible invoice charges. If your platform fee and usage-based charges add up to more than the coupon value, the remaining amount is still payable. Depending on how the discount is allocated, the invoice may show part of the platform fee as uncovered even though the remaining balance represents usage beyond your plan’s included limits.

How coupon allocation works

Consider an invoice with a $249 Pro platform fee, $5 of usage beyond the plan’s included limits, and a fixed-amount coupon worth $249: In this example, $5 of the coupon is allocated to usage and the remaining $244 is allocated to the platform fee. This leaves $5 of the platform-fee line uncovered. You still received the full $249 coupon discount. The remaining invoice total corresponds to charges above the coupon’s value, even though the invoice presents the balance against the platform-fee line. A fixed-amount coupon is a monetary discount. It does not add model credits, increase included usage limits, or prevent usage-based overage charges.

Review your invoices

  1. Go to Settings > Billing.
  2. Open the Invoices dropdown in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select the invoice you want to review.
  4. The invoice opens in the Orb billing portal, where you can review its billing period, line items, discounts, total, and payment status.

Compare your invoice with your usage

On the Billing page, scroll down to Usage analytics. The available charts include:
  • Logs usage.
  • Scores usage.
  • Topics input tokens.
  • Topics output tokens.
Use the Daily view to identify usage recorded on individual days. This view displays charts such as Daily logs usage and Daily scores usage. To review usage for the relevant billing period:
  1. On the left, select Cumulative.
  2. On the right, select This month, or select Custom when reviewing a historical invoice.
  3. Review the cumulative logs, scores, Topics input-token, and Topics output-token charts.
  4. Compare the totals with the usage lines and billing period shown on the invoice.
The cumulative view helps explain how usage built up during the month. Topics and built-in models draw from the same monthly model credit. After that credit is exhausted, additional token usage is billed at the on-demand rates. For more information, see:
